SAG Awards Spotlight: Kristin Chenoweth

January 31, 2006 at 12:05 pm by HeidiGoLightly

Kristin Chenoweth

Ok. At the Golden Globes it was Jane Seymour. At the SAG Awards it was Kristin Chenoweth. Oh yes, she scared me on the red carpet. She scared me big time. Here is what I observed:

1. She’s actually very tiny. Almost travel-sized.
2. She’ll sing you a song on the red carpet if you ask her. No, she doesn’ t mind at all. In fact, she has a number prepared.
3. She’ll twirl around and around endlessly.
4. She’ll smile really, really big. A lot.

And, when you least expect it, she’ll lean in for that air kiss, unhinge her jaw and swallow your soul. Run, Ryan Seacrest. Just drop the microphone and go. She already got Nancy O’Dell. For the love of God, ruuuuuuuun!!!

Ok, so that didn’t happen. Yet.

But anyway, she’s just bubblin’ over with joy. The kind of joy that comes from knowing that you picked the right dress. A dress made entirely of wrapping paper. It’s so shiny. And the gold rose print? Inspired.

As a side note, I was absolutely thrilled to see that Tim Burton’s “Corpse Bride” is nominated for Best Animated Picture and very disappointed that “Kung Fu Hustle” was not nominated for Best Foreign Language Film.
But, I can’t wait to see the ceremony, especially since Jon Stewart is hosting this year.

So, what do you all think of the choices? Did your favorites make the cut? Anyone have any early predictions?

More from the SAG Awards…

January 31, 2006 at 2:54 am by Miss Cinnamon

One of my favourite’s from the Lost cast. Maggie Grace is radiant in this chocolate brown gown. Perfect hair, perfect make-up, perfect red carpet style. Shame she was killed off…

Speaking of killed off, Brenda Strong follows Marcia Cross and Felicity Huffman, in this slinky purple number. Looking absolutely gorgeous, it makes me wonder… why couldn’t they have killed Teri Hatcher off instead?

Eva Longoria isn’t all purple but blends right in with her Desperate counterparts. I bet this Badgely Mischka dress looked gorgeous on the rack, unfortunately it was entirely all too old and heavy for Eva to pull off. Good attempt though.

I’ve loved Katherine Heigl since she was on Roswell and similarly on Grey’s Anatomy, she is the prettiest female member of the cast. Unfortunately, I don’t think this dress does her justice. I’m never a fan of tiered skirts but I’ll forever be bias with her as she’s just so pretty!

Mary Louise Parker!! Weeds is the surprise cult hit of the season. Unfortunately she didn’t win at the SAGs, but in the world of entertainment awards, who really cares about the SAGs anyway? She is always gorgeous and with several Emmy awards under her belt, her talent is unquestionable.

Sandra Bullock. If it didn’t have a tulip skirt, I would love it.

Ohh Teri Hatcher, why must you look so gaunt and tired all the time? God knows you make enough money for a gazillion surgeries and whilst I am usually very against cosmetic surgery, if you’re going to grace one of the most popular TV shows currently showing all over, please please please fix your face!

Jennifer Esposito went lace and crochet and white. Wow, that’s three big spring/summer trends all rolled into one.

Zhang Ziyi, why must you do this to me? You know I hate you. You know I hate your L’Oreal ad on TV. You know I think you’re a terrible actress. You know I hate how stuck up you come across in your interviews – with nothing to show for it. I mean, let’s face it. You’re hardly Meryl Streep. And you’re not particularly pretty. You don’t have the longevity of Jackie Chan in you and in a few years, you’re going to end up like Chow-Yun Fat. Chow Yun-Who? Exactly. So why must you wear this exquisite dress that forces me to admit you look……. Semi-good. That’s all I’ll say on the matter.

Nicolette, Thandie and Ellen at the SAG awards

January 30, 2006 at 2:13 am by Miss Cinnamon

It may not be the ugliest green I’ve ever seen (that would be Zhang Ziyi at the Globes), but the creases and wrinkles on Nicolette Sheridan’s mermaid dress do nothing but emphasise the wrinkles and creases on her face.

After her disastrous attempt at elegance at the Globes, Ellen Pompeo decided not to go for the doily look. Instead she looks positively exquisite in this deep burgundy dress. She’s nowhere near pretty but her hair and her makeup and her choice of gown is flawless.

In my household, we refer to Thandie Newton as ‘The Monkey’. Yep. She looked like one in Mission Impossible II and completely ruined last season’s ER for me but cover her face in this photo and she looks lovely.

Monochrome Dominates SAG Awards

January 30, 2006 at 1:37 am by Miss Cinnamon

Whilst the Desperate Housewives gang decided to go all out in purple (sans the Wicked Witch of the West Teri and Sag Hag #2 Nicolette), the rest of the celeb world decided classic black and white were the colours to be seen in.

CSI’s Mary Helgenberger looked absolutely gorgeous in this Luca Luca number. She usually goes straight over my head when it comes to the red carpet but I had to look twice when I saw her in this beautiful gown.

Sandra Oh won again for Grey’s Anatomy. Well deserved. She’s an amazing actress with a great sense of style. Not a lot of people could pull this stripy black and white Versace strapless off but she manages to look good all the time.

Not one to let the cancellation of her cult hit TV series Arrested Development get her down, Portia de Rossi is stunning in this Bill Blass sunflowered print black and white wispy gown. This S/S season is all about light and airy and Portia has gotten it hands down with this simple yet elegant dress.

To make her look less like the Big Friendly Giant, Commander-in-Chief Geena Davis should stop wearing these long flowy strapless dressess. You know yourself you look like a man Geena so why do you insist on perpetuating the image with this horrible Escada dress? Something sleek and figure hugging next time please.

Hmm… no reports of any dress scandals with this outfit for Reese Witherspoon yet… but we’ll keep our eyes peeled. Neither showstopping nor particularly shocking in any hideous way, Reese blends in with the rest of them in this average tank dress.

Michelle Rodriguez Cleans Up Well At the SAGs

January 29, 2006 at 11:38 pm by Miss Cinnamon

Who would’ve thought Lost star Michelle Rodriguez could ever look this good? Dressed in Diane von Furstenberg, I’m still a little meh over her dress choice. The colour looks stunning on her but the detail on the bust looks a little cushion cover. Nevertheless, she actually looks like a woman, so I ain’t complaining!

Marcia Cross and Felicity Huffman at SAG Awards

January 29, 2006 at 11:30 pm by Miss Cinnamon

Oh dear. Felicity Huffman may have won the award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actress in a Comedy Series - undeservingly, Mary Louise was so robbed - but she was outshined by Marcia in the same coloured Vera Wang dress. We don’t know if the Desperate gang were trying for the same colour scheme, as Eva Longoria could easily blend into the above lilac shades, but Felicity just isn’t pretty enough or snazzy enough to pull it off. In fact, she just looks plain boring.

Coming Up Next: The SAG Awards

January 29, 2006 at 3:36 pm by HeidiGoLightly

Awards season is a very exciting time for me. I’m thoroughly addicted to these shows and I freely admit it. From the Golden Globes to the Emmys, whenever the celebrity red carpet is rolled out, it fills me with a fiendish delight. What will the celebrities be wearing? And, more importantly, will what they choose to wear be wonderfully unfashionable?

Now, I do appreciate the beautifully dressed celebrities walking down the red carpet with the perfect dresses, perfect hair, perfect accessories, etc. I just don’t usually write about them.

Award show fashion missteps are just so much more fun to write about. So, as I view each award show, I scour the scene to find those few fabulous individuals who have chosen to totally ignore the advice of their stylist or spouse or clergy or psychic or accountant or shaman or pet or Joan Rivers or whomever and just “go for it” on the red carpet. After all, who doesn’t remember Bjork’s swan dress and Lara Flynn Boyle’s strange ballerina tutu?

So, it is with glee that I look forward to tonight’s SAG Awards. If the red carpet is anything like last year, I will not be disappointed. Kyra Sedgwick’s sherbet dress from the 2005 SAG Awards made my year end fashion review. Below are some of my other favorite fashion moments from last year’s ceremony. But, as much fun as it to take a look back, I can’t wait to see what’s new on the red carpet tonight! So, check back for postings about the 2006 SAG Awards!

FelicityHuffmanFelicity Huffman’s dress was reminiscent of one of those spandex slimming undergarments with added see through scarf panels added along the bottom. The panels were attached with Velcro, so she could tear them off later at the after parties while performing her legendary dance of the two veils.

SJPSarah Jessica Parker gave a nod to her days on Square Pegs with this 80’s looking polka dot dress. Since she’s already wearing something that looks like a modified skinny tie around her neck, all she needs are bright neon-colored leg warmers and maybe a few hundred black rubber bracelets to complete the look. It’s too bad she didn’t crimp her hair…

Hooked on Hasselhoff?

January 27, 2006 at 1:51 pm by HeidiGoLightly

David HasselhoffYes, it’s true. David Hasselhoff is single once again. He’s on the prowl. The Hoffster. The Hoffmeister. The Hoffinator. The Hoffa-Rama-Lama-Ding-Dong. And, truthfully, who can resist the powerful charms of the Hasselhoff in all his glory? Resistance is futile. But still, I try.

For your consideration, this recent video popping up all over the internet. Behold the Hasselhoff as he flies around the world and frolics with daschunds. Watch him bewitch angels and large-eyed alien type monsters. Try to look away as he dons a fur parka, black leather and a deranged Crocodile Hunter outfit. Quiver with delight as he dances with an African tribe and shoves an entire fish into his mouth. More, more, more »

Dress Déjà Vu #3: Natalie, Kirsten and Debra, Oh My!

January 24, 2006 at 4:45 pm by HeidiGoLightly

NatalieKirstenDebra

Kirsten Dunst strikes again! With Chanel already begging for Reese Witherspoon’s forgiveness, there are now reports that the “vintage” Chanel lace dress worn by Natalie Portman at the Golden Globes was previously worn by Kirsten Dunst in 2003 and Debra Messing in 2001! What is going on over at Chanel headquarters? The house of Chanel seems to feel that once a dress is worn by Ms. Dunst, it can safely be labeled “vintage”. Although this most recent scandal is not confirmed, the dresses are seemingly identical in the photos. I think Coco would be very displeased.
