Prince Gets Daring with Yellow

March 1, 2007 at 12:23 am by Biba Girl

Prince

Prince is the only man who can truly pull off something like a yellow suit and not look that ridiculous. Props to a daring guy who’s rocking a hot spring color! I wasn’t expecting it to look so good on a man but. . . Prince is Prince. Would you expect anything less?

Oscars Hangover? Me Too.

February 28, 2007 at 3:43 am by Biba Girl

I hate it when we head into the award drought after a major show. All the sparkling jewels, gowns, and impeccable hair are gone for another year! Sigh.

I’ve taken the liberty of making my own sexy little get-up. Thanks to eLuxury, I have the cutest outfit for an informal event. I may not be a celebrity, but I can still look fabulous! I don’t have a place to wear a full formal gown, but this confection will be just right…

Robert Rodriguez's Ruffled Shift
Robert Rodriguez’s Ruffled Shift Dress
This dress is sexy, flirty, and fun. I love that it feels a little fancy but is a pullover style. It’s secretly comfortable–and I love it, love it, love it.

Earrings
Me&Ro Engraved Hoops
I’ll finish the look off with 10K gold. Eeee!

Hand Painted!

Great ankle ties! Etched and hand-painted designs make these shoes unique.

Care to suggest a bag?

Thanks, eLuxury!

The Sexiest on the Red Carpet: Beyoncé

February 27, 2007 at 9:42 pm by Sarah Jean Snarker

I’m amazed that a person can look this unbelievably good in a mere dress.

Beyonce Armani

I give allll the credit to Beyoncé’s body, which must have grown curvier since finishing Dreamgirls.

Some didn’t like the jeweled "sash" piece, but I think it’s what makes the Armani gown an Oscar dress and not lingerie.

The shoes however, basket weave peep-toed ankle strap D’Orsays, did not go with the feel of the gown. Oh well, we can’t win ‘em all.

This Lady Loved Anne Hathaway

February 27, 2007 at 4:00 am by Editor Ella

Guest Blogger, Designer Ella:

Anne Hathaway ValentinoI had to come here to say my piece about Anne Hathaway’s dress. Everyone hated it - I don’t understand that. I loved Anne’s gown! Certain people say it’s matronly, but it’s just my own style; feminine and romantic - classy and not revealing. I do feel personally insulted … and afraid of the possibility of having fame one day and consistently being ragged on. I have a style, and for important events, I always stick to it. Why change for others?

Shame, shame on the critics. I must write this, you hear me, for all those like I am. Why is it that fashionistas gang together against perfectly fine fashion? Let’s get individual opinions. I applaud Sarah Jean Snarker for standing up for Jennifer Hudson’s bolero - we need standout voices like that!

Back to the actual dress. By Valentino, it was a simple yet detailed strapless number with a black bow framing the neckline and continuing to accentuate Anne’s waist. Very flattering. Form fitting white lace flowed to a fuller ankle.

The jewels; earrings of dangling diamonds—Anne was beyond correct to not add a necklace to her already-adorned chest—and rows on rows of diamond bangles. Perfection.

Hathaway’s a bit more of a simple, humble celebrity with a friendly appearance. No vamp glam or revealing lines would be right for her. This - was right.

Jennifer Lopez Shone in Marchesa

February 26, 2007 at 9:41 pm by Sarah Jean Snarker

Jennifer Lopez Oscars

Fekkai Smooth HairOne of the top best-dressed at the 79th Annual Academy Awards was Jennifer Lopez. She shone on the red carpet even without a film to represent. Wearing a vintage Marchesa, Jen looked like a queen with gem strings adorning her chest.

Her hair was of the best as well. J Lo really looks best with a shorter style. One suggestion though is for her to put Frederick Fekkai Smooth Hair product on her tresses. No down ‘do is red-carpet ready without it.

Well, I loved Jennifer Hudson’s Jacket

February 26, 2007 at 8:33 pm by Sarah Jean Snarker

Jennifer Hudson Oscar de la RentaI know Jennifer Hudson’s bolero was different, futuristic, shimmering, poiny and huge, but I think it was perfectly suitable to the diva’s night that was about to unfold.

She was claiming that red carpet and screaming to everyone that she. is. fabulous! Hudson doesn’t have unlimited options with a fuller figure, and this awards season she has stuck to the simple lines that hug her curves - looking fabulous but always safe. So it’s no wonder that she had Oscar de la Renta custom-make the ensemble who added something special. This was Oscars. night. people! Let us have some fun, let her have a lot of fun! We need glamour and Jennifer was the most daring and least boring starlet of the night! With her three costume changes all being so amazing, it’s almost as if winning came second (but only because that was an obvious cinch!)

My one complaint was with the pockets in the gown, because when Jen stood on the red carpet, she awkwardly tucked her hands into them. She looked nervous, which was understandable but didn’t go with the whole point or give her due credit. See a picture below.

Jessica Biel’s Red Carpet Look

February 26, 2007 at 1:42 am by Biba Girl

Jessica Biel

I’d love it if someone else could give me their input on Jessica Biel’s gown. She said her Oscar de la Renta gown was “comfortable and chic,” but I don’t know if I’m digging it. Is it wrong to dislike this gown by Oscar? The fabric is super unforgiving and it’s almost slightly lumpy around the waist, even though it looks incredibly light.

Hmmmm. What do you think?

Jennifer Hudson Rocks the Red Carpet

February 26, 2007 at 1:26 am by Biba Girl

Jennifer Hudson

For all of us who never know where to put their hands or arms when we’re nervous, Jennifer Hudson is showing us her perfect solution. Now, while I’m not sooo crazy about formal dresses with pockets as a general rule, it’s a great option if there’s going to be a lot of posing going on.

I’m going to ignore that mini jacket, since Jennifer was so modest receiving her award. I loved it when she said “I didn’t think I was going to win!” Yay, Jennifer!

Maggie Gylenhaal in Proenza Schouler at Oscars

February 25, 2007 at 9:17 pm by Sarah Jean Snarker

Maggie Gylenhaal Oscars

Just as my blogging prep was just getting going, we lost Internet connection here at Lipped Media / Style Spotlight HQ. (I sound important there, huh?) Bad cable, bad.

And we’re up! But photos and information roll out and are found at a frustrating speed. Publishers: Red Carpet photos mean nothing without labeling the designers to the gowns! Bloggers don’t have time to research, and my memory is poor. :-P

When absolutely no one published that information, I got very tired and took my bratty and too-focused-for-my-own-good self away to party.

I’m back now to find as I left, the answer published.

And the winning website which answered "Who was Maggie Gylenhaal wearing?" is … People.com! My constant go-to, already! <3

The designer of her gown is Proenza Schouler. More photos below.

Spa Perks: Stars are Spoiled Bitches or The $1M Massage

February 24, 2007 at 1:56 pm by Sarah Jean Snarker

Gwyneth - SpaStars are getting pampered and perked for the big Oscar night at salons like Sonya Dakar, which has a special "Oscar Facial" with LED and oxygen treatments.

Hearts on Fire, known for its perfectly cut diamonds, has partnered with Spa on Location to create a mobile spa that makes house calls. The signature treatment: the "Dream Girl" Diamond Massage – with $1 million in loose diamonds.

And no one must forget the manis, pedis and brow waxes (and prolly a few other spots).

Unnecessary. I mean I’m hoping to be able to scrounge together a few for a plain old brow wax and possibly a trim this month. I do my own nails now, too, and I love what I do - but still nothing competes with that pampered feeling! Sigh.

I wish that you girls out there get to pamper yourselves a bit for your own Oscar party. Me? I’m working and studying. Don’t worry, I’ll be having my own fun!

And cheers with the champagne! We regular gals can have some of our own fun!
