‘Love’ Handling Gossip Attacks

December 3, 2007 at 12:08 pm by Sarah Jean Snarker

What’s ‘Love’ Got to Do with Your ‘Bitch’ Condition? And do you need a heart if you don’t use it?

Gossip that has made the rounds on blogs this past week is making national news headlines, as the object of ridicule speaks back. The subject is Jennifer Love Hewitt and the angle is “fat”.

Can we be less original? Here’s “Love” last week on the beach:

When Hewitt wrote a blog response on her MySpace  (I cannot find member profile to confirm: source) claiming that “a size 2 is not fat!” this spurred the gossip hounds on.

“Jennifer Love Hewitt thinks she’s a size 2!”
“Jennifer Love Hewitt can’t count past 2″,

read harsher headlines (from the latest Technorati posts) alone.

These bloggers must have size 2 hearts. Come on people, it’s the holidays! What would Jesus do? I’ll tell ya. Be papparatzi-shot while walking on the water of that beach, only to have the only thing discussed is his widening waistline, since after all, he’s about to “turn a year older” soon.

And you would not want Jesus complaining about you on his MySpace. ‘Cause You Know Who would be his top friend.

What, is there a Minimum Age Req. for Sexiest Man Alive?

November 24, 2007 at 2:35 pm by Sarah Jean Snarker

People’s Sexiest Man Alive this year (a ridiculous concept, that it changes every year) is Matt Damon. What? Look, he’s a great guy, but he ain’t that cute.

People’s Sexiest Men

They’ve managed to take two out of three of the top men, as voted by them, and make them look old, tired and with lifeless hair. (McDreamy, however, is actually kind of McDreamy this season, actually.)
Ladies and Gentlemen, the true Sexiest Man Alive for a good while to come is actually… More, more, more »

I’ll lure you here with a piece of hot ass…

November 24, 2007 at 1:40 pm by Sarah Jean Snarker

But what really is here is Britney Spears, hot piece of anything anymore, or not.

See, her album’s not doing well anymore, so I thought you should take a listen to her new single, “Piece of Me“. It’s a good track about the paparazzi, etc. No really .. it’s good. Well, to a certain standard.

At least you’ll try it, the woman needs to feed her kids. Or she needs to pay Fed-X to feed them or something.

MySpace e-Series, ‘Quarterlife,’ Nabbed by NBC

November 21, 2007 at 11:29 am by Sarah Jean Snarker

For reasons possibly brought on by the Writer’s Strike and its ironic ties to Internet TV, NBC has nabbed MySpace twentysomething e-show, Quarterlife, to air next numeric year on its own television channel.

[Daily News] Facing a possible freeze in new programming because of the Writer’s Guild of America strike, the network has reached an agreement with [Quarterlife creators] that would allow them to air six, hour-long episodes culled from the clips that are now airing on MySpace and quarterlife.com.

NBC will get the show after they’ve all run online.

Quarterlife; Episode 1, pt. 1
You just have to get past the very early-in sing-song, and watch it get [mostly] better.

What this means is that not only will Internet savvy watchers be bored by literally re-runs later this winter, but a selling point and crucial aspect of the point of the show will be lostit will not air online.

This matters for several reasons. The lead character in the show, Dylan, is a vlogger, (not blogger) which ties into not only the theme but the very lives of most quarterlifers, both in the fictional series and real life. We youth want innovation and shininess, and we just plain accepted and welcomed the premise — and this is a generation that can not be fooled when what was promised is taken away. We are not big business, and we don’t like it. Is that what this show will become?

And of course, it’s oh-so painfully ironic that the series will be taken off the Internet and put on the muddy airwaves of the boob tube, in this precise time of now. (Is anyone else pissed that our TV is being taken away?) I wouldn’t side with the networks in any new endeavor, and now this show might as well be taken away — for I say take it! It may have just lost its cool.

Conversely, however, co-creator, Marshall Herzkowitz, was quoted to say that This serves the Writers Guild more than the companies. Read more and help explain that one to me!

This is a crime in metaphor! An injustice of example! Isn’t it ironic?

There are two ways of fixing this though. First of all, the series, concept and extras need to live on through www.quarterlife.com and MySpace. In fact, leave them/us to still get more 8 minute bits as we currently get, and create new content for hour-long sit-downs during prime time. That would really serve the ADD-web viewers and [to be] fans who want more equally well.

Finally, they need to stop being asshats and give the writers what they deserve!

Ellen DeGeneres Crosses Picket Lines to Tape Her Show

November 20, 2007 at 5:23 am by Nancy @ Mall

Ellen DeGeneres

Ellen DeGeneres has decided to cross picket lines at her studio, marching right through them. These people are writers on her own show! Some support, solidarity, compassion would go a long way! Ellen stated that she will continue to tape new episodes of her show during the Writer’s Strike without having an opening monologue. Ellen stated that she felt bad for the people who have traveled to see tapings of her show, some might be on vacation! Well, that’s life! Oh well! Life is not going to always turn out the way you planned, find something else to do for the afternoon! Shame on all those audience members crossing a picket line to sit in those seats! And also, which guests stars will show up for tapings? Are they forced to appear because of their contracts? Or are they spineless, superficial people who just care about themselves and their own exposure?

When we don’t stand up for what is right we ourselves become part of the problem. Support the Writer’s Guild. They only ask for what is right and fair.

(Again, I apologize for the technical difficulties I had with posting.)

Cast of “Grey’s”, More, Join their Writers in Solidarity Strike

November 8, 2007 at 5:47 pm by Sarah Jean Snarker

Ellen Pompeo strikesThe main cast of hit show Grey’s Anatomy joined their writers at the picket lines today, in support of their cause for fair payment. Singular cast members from many other comedies and dramas have also joined in, in a Screen Actors’ Guild Solidarity picket. Shows and megahits, such as The Office, are on hold even sooner than recently predicted, due to top billed stars joining the lines, like Steve Carrell, a huge focus of his sitcom.

Writers ‘are not being allowed to participate in the future of the business,’ said [Sally] Field [of Brothers and Sisters] (who won an Oscar in 1979 for the pro-union film Norma Rae).”

“My concern is not so much for myself really, because I’ll be alright, but I think how long this strike lasts is going to affect a lot of people that are living paycheck to paycheck [like hair stylists and basic odd-job hired-hands] - they are going to be damaged profoundly by this, and I think that’s a real tragedy,” the Grey’s Anatomy star [Patrick Dempsey] reflected. “I think a lot of people and a lot of families are going to be in a difficult place in their lives; hopefully we can come to some sort of understanding and resolve this soon enough that it doesn’t affect those people.”

BuddyTV.com reported, “Dempsey is not alone in his concern for lesser paid television crew and personnel who are at the bottom of the entertainment ladder. Scrubs creator and executive producer, Bill Lawrence, had the same fear for his people.

“Right now, I fear that a lot of the writers have no real clue just how tough this is going to be. I’d imagine things will get very grim sometime after Christmas,” Lawrence has said. “I’ve kind of won the lottery in having a few shows that went to syndication in both Scrubs and Spin City, so anything I say about my own sacrifice would drip with selfishness. This is such a bigger deal for the guys who work below the line and largely live hand-to-mouth and the younger writers who can’t go without a paycheck for very long.”

“You’ve got to have a story in order to perform anything, to have any ideas on where to go and what to do,” Katherine Heigl summed up. “They’re everything. We can’t do it without them.”

“How greedy can you get, they won’t even share the net!”

Oprah Hires “Scabs” ; Can Her Soul Heal?

November 8, 2007 at 4:56 pm by Nancy @ Mall

Oprah Winfrey The Television Writer’s Union voted to officially strike; to stand up for themselves, their beliefs and their rights. The bottom line may be monetary, but is that a difference from anyone’s bottom line?

While most shows, whether it be a comedy, drama, late night talk show, even Saturday Night Live, have already announced they have ceased production for the duration of the strike, The Oprah Winfrey Show will continue. Ms. Oprah wasted no time in hiring “scabs”, non-union writers to work for her show during the strike.

So, Ms. Oprah, do you enjoy crossing that picket line each day to tape a show? Does that make you feel so much more important than the “commoner”? After all what do you need with job stability, a cost of living wage raise, or a health care package for yourself and dependents? Viewers must make up their own minds but a severe lack of integrity and compassion speaks for itself.
