He wasn’t young. He wasn’t pretty. Scandal did not follow him at every turn. But, Darren McGavin was one of my favorite character actors and I could not let him pass without some kind of tribute.
Probably best known for his hilarious portrayal of the father, or “old man”, in the holiday classic A Christmas Story, McGavin also starred in the TV series Kolchak: The Night Stalker and won an Emmy Award in 1990 for his guest appearance on Murphy Brown.
He was 83 years old.
More on McGavin’s career can be found at IMDB or at ABC News

“Fra-jee-lay… must be Italian!”
RIP, Old Man.
Thanks for the tribute, HGL.

Well, I thought it was fitting to remember him, even on a celebrity style site. After all, he was concerned about fashion in his own way. Kolchak had a rockin’ seersucker suit and the Old Man certainly didn’t want Ralphie walking around in that dreadful bunny suit or “pink nightmare” as he called it. Thanks, Lady T, for your delightful input!
