John Travolta in Drag??

John Travolta has reportedly signed on to play Edna Turnblad in the film adaptation of the Broadway musical version of John Waters’ 1988 cult hit, “Hairspray“.
He definitely has some big pumps to fill. Drag queen performer and John Waters favorite, Divine ( below left), originated the role in the film and then Harvey Fierstein (below right) originated the role on Broadway and won a Tony Award for his portrayal.
What do you think of the choice? Somehow, I just can’t picture it.
No white leisure suit? No leather jacket? I just don’t know…

I don’t think he’s in touch enough with his female side. I mean John Waters was an accomplished drag queen, and Harvey Fierstein is barely male.

I have to disagree. Have you ever seen this guy on “Oprah”? Mr. Sensitive Scientology Dude cries at the drop of a hat.
