In Search of a New Chef for South Park…

Chef

SJS had posted earlier in the week that Tom Cruise allegedly used his influence to prevent the creators of “South Park” from re-running an episode which poked fun at Scientology.

In a related story, Isaac Hayes, the voice of Chef, also announced this past week that he was leaving the show. Hayes, a Scientologist, stated that “there is a place in this world for satire, but there is a time when satire ends and intolerance and bigotry towards religious beliefs of others begins. Religious beliefs are sacred to people, and at all times should be respected and honored. As a civil rights activist of the past 40 years, I cannot support a show that disrespects those beliefs and practices.”

Matt Stone, co-creator of “South Park” responded by saying that “this is 100 percent having to do with his faith of Scientology… He has no problem — and he’s cashed plenty of checks — with our show making fun of Christians.” He also went on to say that they “never heard a peep out of Isaac in any way until we did Scientology. He wants a different standard for religions other than his own, and to me, that is where intolerance and bigotry begin.”

So that is both sides of the story. But, what interested me the most was that it was also reported that the people behind “South Park” were not sure if they would end the character of Chef or just have him continue on with the voice of another actor. That got me to thinking about who could possibly fill Isaac Hayes’ shoes and I came up with a few ideas…

Papa Got a Brand New Chef “Chef” James Brown

What do you think? Any other suggestions? If you would like to create your own “South Park” character as I did for this post, click here.

You are indeed a crazy woman. They’re all great. I think they should have him leave the show because someone makes fun of Scientology. Don’t try to glaze over it, don’t hire someone new. Make it very clear why he left.

  2. LadyT. Says:

I think you may have found a new career creating South Park characters! Perhaps you should submit these renderings to Matt and Trey….

  3. Astarlette Says:

I think all of these characters need to at least make an appearance on the show!

Thank you so much Jenners, Lady T and Astarlette! I’m so glad you thought the characters were funny. I have no idea how they will actually handle Isaac Hayes’ departure from the show, but I really like the idea of Chef leaving because someone makes fun of Scientology. I really do hope they get someone interesting to take over his voice, though. I’ve heard Mr. T as a possible suggestion as well…

    Great article!

Well, I watched the episode after he left. They used past clips for his voice and made fun of him being brainwashed. I won’t ruin anything more, but Chef is gone, no new voice, but I suppose the school will need someone new for serving lunch, at least.
