Well, it has officially begun. Oscar fever. And the nominees are…

Supporting Actress- Amy Adams (Junebug), Catherine Keener (Capote), Rachel Weisz (The Constant Gardener), Michelle Williams (Brokeback Mountain) and Frances McDormand (North Country)
Supporting Actor- George Clooney (Syriana), Matt Dillon (Crash), Paul Giamatti (Cinderella Man), Jake Gyllenhaal (Brokeback Mountain) and William Hurt (A History of Violence)
Actress- Felicity Huffman (Transamerica), Reese Witherspoon (Walk the Line), Keira Knightley (Pride and Prejudice), Charlize Theron (North Country) and Judi Dench (Mrs. Henderson Presents)
Actor- Philip Seymour Hoffman (Capote), Joaquin Phoenix (Walk the Line), Heath Ledger (Brokeback Mountain), David Strathairn (Good Night and Good Luck) and Terrence Howard (Hustle and Flow)
Director- Ang Lee (Brokeback Mountain), Bennett Miller (Capote), Paul Haggis (Crash), George Clooney (Good Night and Good Luck) and Steven Speilberg (Munich)
Picture- Brokeback Mountain, Capote, Crash, Good Night and Good Luck, Munich

As a side note, I was absolutely thrilled to see that Tim Burton’s “Corpse Bride” is nominated for Best Animated Picture and very disappointed that “Kung Fu Hustle” was not nominated for Best Foreign Language Film.
But, I can’t wait to see the ceremony, especially since Jon Stewart is hosting this year.

So, what do you all think of the choices? Did your favorites make the cut? Anyone have any early predictions?

  1. Miss Cinnamon Says:

Keira Knightley is a horse. Or a man. She’s a horse face man. And she cannot act.

  2. Bad Hair Czar Says:

Man, that lead actress category is weak! Keira Knightley, really? Charlize Theron, again? I hope Felicity kicks their asses - that should make the other housewives want to maul her.

But at least Scarlett Johanssen wasn’t nominated - she sounds like a dude and she can’t act.

  3. HeidiGoLightly Says:

I’m really hoping that Felicity Huffman takes home the Oscar. I also hope that Philip Seymour Hoffman wins for best actor. He’s a terrific actor and his transformation into Truman Capote was astonishing.

  4. Bad Hair Czar Says:

If PSH or Joaquin Phoenix win, I will be happy. I actually hope there will be a tie, because I love them both.

  5. Miss Cinnamon Says:

I’m so over Felicity Huffman. She really annoys me. She’s not very attractive and I dont know why she keeps winning at DH cause Marcia Cross is clearly the better actress. I think it’s because of her husband’s connections. William H Macy is such a respected figure in the Hollywood scene, they probably share the same publicist…. I wonder what she did to get her to win so much.

  6. Bad Hair Czar Says:

Damn, I just saw Crash - and now I understand the nominations.

I really hope Matt Dillon wins. And not just because he’s hot.

  7. HeidiGoLightly Says:

I have to admit, I’m a bit behind on my movie watching and have not seen that many of the nominated films. I don’t know what I’ve been doing with my time, really. But, I’ve always like Matt Dillon and I hear Crash is amazing.

  8. Sarah Joelle Snarker Says:

It’s been said that all the movies the public actually saw were ignored.

I’m not surprised Serenity was ignored, but I feel like it was way up there. I am biased, though. (No one saw it? Well, most people I know saw it or bought the DVD. The DVD was doing well, when I checked.)

Well, I’ll ignore them! (Actually, I already did. I assume Serenity was ignored, didn’t hear about it, and it wasn’t on your list. :-P Besides, it should be up for best director, it wasn’t, therefore = ignored.)
